# History, checkpoints and restore

View revisions and checkpoints, and restore saved template content.

Sometimes you need to revisit a design or find the save that changed a particular detail. **History** lists revisions of the open version, including timestamps, authors when available, and checkpoint notes to help you find the right point.

## 1. Open the history for the right version

Select a version in the editor, then open **History**. Entries describe actions such as saving content, editing sources, importing, or restoring. The current revision is marked in the list.

This history tracks the design. For a generated PDF, open [Renders](/docs/renders/history/), which records jobs and their results.

## 2. Inspect a revision before restoring it

Use the viewing action on a revision to open its saved content. A historical revision is read-only; return to the current revision to continue editing.

Viewing an old revision does not change the live content. You can inspect it before deciding to restore it.

Inspect a past revision without replacing current content

## 3. Add checkpoints to identify changes

Open a revision’s **…** menu to add or edit its **Checkpoint**. Describe the change, such as “Update Vietnamese labels” or “Move notes to a separate page”.

A checkpoint annotates a revision; it does not create a version. Changes saved by AI through MCP also carry a checkpoint describing their intent.

Revision menu → Checkpoint → describe the change

## 4. Restore saved content

Open the desired revision’s **…** menu, choose the restore action, and confirm. If there are unsaved edits, the editor asks you to resolve them first.

Restoring brings the selected content back into the version and records a new history entry. It does not restore deleted image files or PDF output whose retention has expired.

If a revision conflict appears, reopen the current content before trying again.
