While designing a template, you can save and preview changes before making it available for use. Save stores your edits; Publish allows that version to receive PDF jobs from Run or the API. The controls sit together in the editor, but serve different steps.
1. Save your edits
Select the version in the top bar, then choose Save. The button is available when there are unsaved changes and you have an editable view.
Saving records a point in the version’s history. You can keep editing afterwards; saving does not publish the template.
2. Publish a version for PDF jobs
After saving, choose Publish in the toolbar. Publication applies to the selected version, rather than every version of the template.
Once published, its button becomes Unpublish. Open Run, select that version, and supply data to generate a PDF.
3. Develop a template that is already in use
Published makes a version available for rendering; it does not lock its content. Saving changes to a version in use can affect subsequent jobs targeting that version.
To prepare a new design while the existing one remains available, create a version from it. Edit and publish the new version, then switch your PDF workflow to its number when ready.
4. Return a version to Draft
Select a published version and choose Unpublish to return it to Draft. Its content remains available for editing and preview, but it no longer meets the publication requirement for new render jobs.
If your workflow targets this number, switch to another published version first. Unpublishing does not delete the template or its previously generated PDFs.
